Call For Proposals: The Top Ten Emerging Technologies in Chemistry

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) has opened its call for proposals to identify the Top Ten Emerging Technologies in Chemistry. Submissions are now invited.

This initiative, established in 2018, aims to highlight the value of chemistry and the contributions of chemists, while informing the broader public of the role of the chemical sciences in advancing societal well-being and supporting the sustainability of Planet Earth.

The results of the selection process will be announced later in the year. The 2025 finalists were announced in October. Find out more on the website.

This call is open to the global scientific community and general public, and anyone may submit one or more proposals.

In celebration of 2025 being the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, Pure and Applied Chemistry has published a three-part special issue dedicated to this theme.

Guest edited by Russell Boyd, Dalhousie University, Canada and Manuel Yañez Montero, Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, Spain, the collection offers broad coverage ranging from state-of-the-art research to authoritative reviews highlighting the diversity and depth of contemporary quantum science.

The goal of the Top Ten Emerging Technologies in Chemistry project is to showcase the value of Chemistry and to inform the general public as to how the chemical sciences contribute to the well-being of society and the sustainability of Planet Earth. Since 2019, the Jury selects emerging technologies on the basis of those in between a new scientific discovery and a fully-commercialized technology, and those with the greatest capacity to open new opportunities in chemistry and beyond.
